Speech & Language Therapy

Recovering from a stroke requires time, patience and expertise. Here at The Stroke Unit, patients are cared for by a multidisciplinary private Stroke Care Team led by Consultant Neurologists and Physicians.

Make An Appointment

To ask a question, make an enquiry or book an appointment, contact our specialist team who are available between Monday – Friday 8am – 6pm and on Saturday from 9.00am to 2.00pm. Our stroke unit team have a dedicated and caring approach and will seek to find you the earliest appointment possible with the correct specialist for your needs.

If you are self-paying you don’t need a referral from your GP. You can simply refer yourself and book an appointment.

If you have medical insurance (e.g. Bupa, Axa PPP, Aviva), you will need to contact your insurer to get authorisation for any treatment and, in most cases, you will require a referral letter from your GP.

If you do not have a GP, then we have an in-house private GP practice that you can use. Alternatively we can suggest the most appropriate course of action for you to take, given your location and individual circumstance.

Speech & Language Therapy

Our speech and language therapy team support those with speech, language, communication, voice and swallowing difficulties after stroke. This includes rehabilitation of understanding, expressive language, as well as reading, writing and numeracy skills.

Dysphagia (swallowing difficulties) can be common post stroke. We provide full assessment and management advice to enable patients to safely return to oral intake through texture modification, safe swallow strategies and dysphagia therapy.

We offer goal orientated, patient centred, impairment therapy, based on up to date clinical evidence. We work in partnership with patients, families and the wider multidisciplinary team to enable effective rehabilitation.
